The date has been set for the yard sale!
September 24th will be date of the second annual yard sale for “Fix Your Mama—before she’s a mama!”
Now we only need something to sell! Please donate your good used items by dropping them off at Alabama Spay/Neuterclinic at 2721 Crestwood Blvd in Irondale. That’s also where the sale will be held. You can call 681-0920 for help getting your donated items to the clinic. Drop offs at the clinic can be made Mon-Thurs.
Every penny raised will go to fix a Blount County dog or cat and reduce the number of animals killed at the Animal Adoption Center—the county’s shelter. There are no overhead expenses, so turn that previously loved item into a life-saving surgery.
Temperatures reached 105* at last year’s sale.

County Fair Sept 13th—17th
Volunteers needed for the booth!
No Kill Blount and “Fix Your Mama!” will have a booth at the Blount County Fair again this year. The Fair will be open for 5 days and volunteers are needed each night to give out information and take donations. Call a buddy and volunteer to meet and greet. The Fair is a vital opportunity to let local folks know we can stop the killing in Blount County. The first step is spay/neuter and the spays are free!
Call Jo at 967-8016 to arrange for a volunteer night at the Fair or email NoKillBlount@gmail.com .

Thank you Bo and Chris of Rescue Riders Transport in New Hampshire for making a quick stop to pick up these little ladies and take them to Irondale.
Carolyn takes a special delivery of Blount County “Fix Your Mama!”
female cats arriving at Alabama Spay/Neuter.
No, Rescue Riders doesn’t usually transport cats in Alabama but stepped up after learning that they would be passing near the cats’ location on I-59 during their regular trip to transport Alabama dogs back to the Northeast. When you care about animals you do what you have to do to save lives and Bo and Chris care a great deal.
We recommend a separate carrier for each cat but the owner had only one carrier and the cats were semi-feral. They were returned home in separate carriers safe and spayed.
Thank you “Fix Your Mama!” volunteers and donors for nipping and snipping this feral colony before it became larger and the kittens began arriving at Animal Adoption Center where most would have been killed.
“Fix Your Mama—before she’s a mama!” fixes Blount County female dogs and cat and give a rabies vaccination if needed at no charge. Proof of residency is required and donations are needed to keep the program going.
As we work towards making Blount County’s Animal Adoption Center the state’s first open admission impound facility to become no kill, we must first reduce the number of animals being brought there. It’s much easier to reach no kill status when you have fewer animals to find homes for.
The intake numbers are dropping because the people of Blount County are getting their animals spayed and neutered.
“Fix Your Mama!” has had the good fortune to receive some generous donations and a grant so please….
…tell everyone you know in Blount County about the free spay program for county female dogs and cats.
Call 681-0920 or 967-8016 to schedule an appointment.

Other news---
Many thanks to the Blount County Commission for the $1,000 donation to spay female dogs and cats. We must have their support to end the killing and looks like we have it!
Another public meeting will be held in October to let everyone know the progress that No Kill Blount has made and what we learned in Washington at the national conference.
We plan to have a guest speaker at the meeting who has worked with Nathan Winograd at a no kill facility and can tell us firsthand about her experiences.
The time and date will be announced.
The Covered Bridge Festival and the Harvest Festival are coming up in October and we need volunteers to help out with the booth.
Alabama Spay/Neuter has just passed the 35,000 mark in the number of surgeries their veterinarians have performed.
.Reminders---
Once we begin to implement the No Kill Equation at the county’s impound, the Animal Adoption Center, we will need many volunteers.
Be ready to make this happen. Don’t hang back thinking you aren’t needed or wait for someone else to do it. It will only work if you do it!
